“My father was an ENT physician. My grandfather practiced ENT in the pre-specialty days. Personally, I never considered an alternative specialty. I was fortunate to be raised in an environment where my father unambiguously showed his love for his work, as I do for mine. As a senior founding member of ENT Associates, a former chairman of the Department of Surgery and former President of Mease Hospital’s medical staff, I have had the privilege of serving in a physician leadership role for many years. Those achievements do not compare with the pleasure and rewards of patient care. I try to understand the patient’s problem from their perspective and offer solutions. It is very satisfying to see a child respond and do well after treatment. There can be no substitute for the privilege of participating in that child’s successful healthcare.”
