VivAer® Procedure

VIVAER is a non-invasive, in-office treatment for patients suffering from nasal airway obstruction and difficulty breathing through the nose.  The nasal valve area is the narrowest region of the nasal airway and is the most common site of nasal airway obstruction.

Who are VivAer patients?

The VivAer Procedure is clinically indicated for patients with obvious anatomical obstruction who are apprehensive about formal surgery in the operating room.

Symptoms of nasal obstruction:

Patients who suffer from nasal airway obstruction often have one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Trouble breathing through the nose
  • Habitual snoring
  • Nasal congestion or nasal stuffiness
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Struggling to breathe during exercise

How does the VivAer Procedure work?

With VivAer, your ENT physician will first apply local anesthesia to numb the inside of your nose and then insert a small wand into your nostril to precisely target and treat the blockage. The tip of the wand uses low-temperature radiofrequency (RF) energy to gently remodel your nasal passage to improve airflow. The treatment has minimal discomfort, and once it’s finished, you can typically get right back to your normal daily activities.

The procedure is done in-office and takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes, and in no way alters patient aesthetics.

VivAer Procedure Effectiveness

Two-year results from a multicenter, prospective clinical trial found that fewer patients had nasal obstruction categorized as severe or extreme at 2 years.  Furthermore, the results of a quality-of-life questionnaire revealed better sleep function and increased sense of wellbeing, along with decreased use of oral medication, nasal sprays, and nasal breathing strips.
